Write a six page research paper on a topic related to a theme raised in this course.
For this assignment you are to:
1. Pick a topic of interest.
This topic may be a particular filmmaker’s body of work, a genre of independent film such as “Asian-American cinema” or the role that beauty and body image plays in coming of age films about girls of color. After you have a topic, you need to posit this film, filmmaker and/or body of work against Hollywood’s (or mainstream film’s) representation of this topic or community.

Please also review the book you read WRITING ABOUT MOVIES: The Short Film Guide by Daniel Corrigan that you read week 1-3 of this course.
3. Do research on the topic.
You should find both scholarly sources as well as other contextual sources such as filmmaker interviews, websites, magazine articles and film reviews. You should keep a working bibliography of all of the sources that you consult and quote and include this at the end of your paper.
4. Develop a thesis statement or a claim or assertion that you will make about your topic.
