How many americans are covered by this type of insurance

Cost, access, and quality are the three main lenses through which our healthcare system and its products and services are evaluated. This assignment is to investigate the issues of cost, access, and quality in the U.S. healthcare system from the perspective of an American patient. The deliverable is a paper consisting of three parts. Specifications are below.
Note that you are encouraged to take your paper draft to the Writing and Learning Commons prior to its due date to obtain feedback. Distance students are encouraged to make use of the online tutoring services available through WCU. Information about both resources can be accessed here: https://www.wcu.edu/learn/academic-success/tutoring-services/index.aspx
Paper specifications
Select someone to interview who is either uninsured or covered by one of the following:
Medicare
Medicaid
Medicare and Medicaid
Military insurance
Private insurance through an employer or family member’s employer
Private insurance through the ACA Marketplace or related (temporary, association, indemnity, etc.) plan
Part 1 (minimum 250 words): Describe the person and their insurance/lack of insurance
Provide a brief description of the interviewee (demographics, occupation, region of residence, etc.) Do not provide the person’s name or other identifying information, such as their relation to you. You may describe them in general terms (e.g., demographics, profession, etc.) but not in specific terms (e.g., my grandma Doris, my husband Sam, etc.).
If the interviewee is uninsured, write a description of their typical experiences with seeking medical care in terms of whether and how they are billed for services, drugs, devices, and hospitalizations.
This might entail describing the process of being billed for emergency room and hospital care
This might entail describing the process of being enrolled in a sliding-scale system at a clinic
This might entail applying for patient assistance programs through drug companies
This might entail using fundraising sites such as GoFundMe or using charitable foundations
Describe what costs the interviewee is typically left with and how they manage them (or don’t)
If the interviewee is covered by insurance, provide a general description of how that insurance program works in terms of:
How it is paid for–where does the money come from? Who pays?
What services it covers (hospital, primary and specialist care, eye/mental/dental, long-term care, etc.)
What services it does not cover
Who qualifies (pay attention to special rules such as state-specific qualifiers for Medicaid patients)
How many Americans are covered by this type of insurance
What the interviewee’s premiums, deductibles, copays and coinsurance are
Discuss whether the interviewee is part of a managed care organization as a part of their health insurance plan and how that impacts their coverage and care options
Part 2 (minimum 250 words): Interview the person about their experiences in this access (insurance) category
Generally, do they find healthcare affordable?
If not/if so, has this always been the case? What has changed regarding healthcare affordability over the course of their lives?
How much choice do they have for:
Providers?
Hospitals?
Drugs and devices?
Outside of the issue of cost, are the healthcare services they need easy to access?
Do they feel that the healthcare services they receive are consistently of a high quality? Why or why not?
How would they like the healthcare system to change to work better for them?
How would they like the healthcare system to change to work better for others?
What should providers be doing differently?
What should private healthcare companies (such as hospitals, drugmakers, insurers, etc.) be doing differently?
What should the government be doing differently?
Part 3 (minimum 500 words): Analyze an aspect of the healthcare system
Write a summary of the strengths and weaknesses of a selected aspect of the U.S. healthcare system using course concepts. In addition to cited evidence, you can use information in parts 1 and 2 to support your arguments. Specifically, describe your selected aspect of our healthcare system in terms of:
The cost of this aspect of healthcare
The access Americans have to this aspect of healthcare
The evidence base for the quality of this aspect of US healthcare. Remember that quality, in this context, refers mainly to patient health outcomes. It can also involve aspects such as patient satisfaction with care.
Examples of aspects you may wish to write about:
Emergency medical services
Health insurance
Prenatal care
Nurse practitioner and physician assistant/associate autonomy
Pharmaceuticals
Long-term care
Care for people with specific diagnoses or disabilities
Care for a specific group or category of Americans
(This is not an exhaustive list. Reach out if you are unsure about your topic)
Guidelines:
Support your arguments using facts. Cite this evidence in text and on your reference page.
Facts are effectively presented using numeric terms. For example, “The uninsured rate in Jackson County is 18%, or double the national average (Smith & Johnson, 2022).”
Quality sources are typically peer-reviewed academic journals and government websites
Avoid professional organization websites–they are usually lobbying groups with biased, borrowed, spun, and/or otherwise unvetted information
Do not rely solely on your textbook to complete this assignment. Healthcare changes every year in the United States.
Papers should be written in Word and formatted according to APA 7 rules for student papers. APA specifies things like line spacing, font size, margins, title page format, headers and pagination, in-text citations, references page citations, how to include graphics, etc. Do not guess at APA. Use the APA OWL sample student paper and follow the formatting exactly:https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/documents/APA%207%20Student%20Sample%20Paper.pdf (Links to an external site.)
Your paper does not need to feature an introduction or a conclusion
Introductions and conclusions will not count towards the word count minimums
Title pages and reference pages are required per APA formatting rules, but will not count towards the word count minimums
You are encouraged to share your opinions–in part 3. Part 1 is for objective facts about the healthcare system. Part 2 is for your subject’s comments.
