My Dad’s on his way to heaven and I have a massive work event the same day this is due and I’m about to explode. This is such a fun project but I just don’t have the time to do it well. If this information is helpful, I have to record a presentation on this but I obviously have to do that part. I’d prefer the Dream Dinners scenario because it’s more up my alley. This professor is really fair and she likes things simple and straightforward. We also use a book called Persuasive Communication (third edition) by James B. Stiff and Paul A. Mongeau. Unfortunately, I don’t have that one electronically. Our other book, Influence Science and Practice (fifth edition) by Robert B. Cialdini. There is no page requirement but she doesn’t like great lengths 5 pages is likely enough to hit the mark while following instructions. Project Description Choose one of the three scenarios presented and create a series of persuasive messages you would use to encourage the target audience to engage in the desired behavior. In addition to creating the persuasive messages, you will provide a brief rationale for the strategy you chose citing the theory or persuasive concepts that guide your message creation. For example, you might choose to write an email, have an article in the employee newsletter, and create a poster to hang in various locations. Other options include print ads, radio ads, brochures, etc. Identify the sender of the message if applicable. For example, if you select the employee wellness option, who will different messages be coming from? If you choose to use social media such as Facebook or Twitter, please provide a series of at least five message and those will count as one of your three messages. If you opt to use social media, include any images that would be in your messages. For each message include a one-page explanation of why you chose the strategy you did, including the words you chose, the persuasive strategies used, and the medium used to deliver the message. For example, if I created a message designed to frighten my audience into action, I would need to cite the relevant theories pertaining to emotion and persuasion. Scenario Details Employee Wellness Program Imagine that you work as a communication specialist for the Advising Department at a mid-sized public university. There are approximately 250 people working in your department including the supervisor, advisors, and administrative staff. The university wellness office comes to you to ask for your assistance in promoting a new employee wellness program being launched by the university. The purpose of the wellness program is to drive down overall medical costs by providing health education and interventions for employees who are at risk for developing more severe medical conditions, encouraging increased physical activity, and promoting the use of effective stress management techniques. Specifically, the wellness office would like assistance in getting the participation rate of employees in your department to be as high as possible in the following areas: Completion of a confidential health risk appraisal. This questionnaire takes about 30-45 minutes to complete and asks employees to answer a variety of questions about their current health and lifestyle. This risk assessment is not tied to insurance rates but instead is used to identify at-risk employees and also to identify lifestyle habits that could be modified to improve employee health. Undergo a basic health screening that includes tests such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, bone density, and lipid profiles. These screenings will not be used to set insurance rates but to identify risk areas for employees. Attend at least one wellness-related workshop during the next year. These workshops put on by the wellness office cover a variety of topics including smoking cessation, mindfulness, healthy eating, and weight loss. The university does have money set aside to provide incentives for participation of up to $150 per employee. You can decide as part of your persuasive strategy how you would use this money. Dream Dinners Scenario You are responsible for the communication and marketing for the Dream Dinners franchise in Powell, Ohio. Powell is a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. Dream Dinners provides the following description of their services: Dream Dinners is an innovative concept in meal preparation that eliminates stress by taking away that nagging question of – what am I going to make for dinner tonight? It removes all menu planning, shopping, prep-work and clean-up by moving the meal assembly process out of people’s kitchens and into specially equipped stores. Dream Dinners’ guests preview a changing monthly menu online at dreamdinners.com and select their dinners from a menu featuring up to 17 items (depending on location) such as Steak Gorgonzola, Penne with Chicken and Peanut Sauce and Firehouse Three Cheese Pasta with Meatballs. The guest can elect to assemble 3-serving or 6-serving dinners, in any combination that works best for their families. (The minimum order per session is 36-servings.) Our guests then register to attend a meal assembly session at the nearest Dream Dinners store location, and pay for their session online. When it’s time for their session, guests bring boxes or coolers with them to the Dream Dinners store, where our friendly and knowledgeable staff greet them and explain the process. At the store, guests rotate through refrigerated recipe stations, scooping prepped ingredients into the provided baking pans or gallon-sized, zip-top bags, which they label with the appropriate cooking instructions. After assembling their dinners, guests take the uncooked dinners home and freeze them. Each week, three meals are taken from the freezer and placed in the refrigerator to be enjoyed during the upcoming week.
