Purpose The purpose of this paper is for the student to explore current nursing literature to discover evidence-based research that leads to optimal patient outcomes. The student will explore cultural, religious, spiritual health, gender, environmental, and developmental issues that impact the goals of care. The goal is for the student to understand how nursing care changes over the patient’s lifespan, and the importance of a holistic approach to care. Guidelines: Submit paper electronically to the “Assignment Submission” area provided in Canvas on the date assigned. Late work will not be accepted. The paper needs to fall between 3-4 pages in length. This does not include the title or reference page. Ten points will be deducted from the final grade if a student falls above or below the page count. The paper must be submitted using APA format, 7th edition formatting. Purdue Owl is a good APA resource, https://owl,english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01. Students are not expected to create an abstract; however, must include headings. Students should provide references throughout the paper on where information was obtained to support the direction of the paper (citations in APA format). Select a minimum of two (2) current (within the past 5 years) peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles to support your proposed plan of care. Do not select editorials, letters to the editor, patient education pamphlets/handouts, a dictionary, Wikipedia, encyclopedia, or websites such as Web MD, etc. Please use journal articles that can be accessed on the Canvas Library link. Correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling are mandatory. Utilize Grammarly to proofread the spelling and grammar check. Contact the librarian to obtain this free resource. Papers should be submitted as a Word document. Do not submit in PDF format or other formats. Any papers not submitted in the correct format will need to be re-submitted and five points will be deducted from the case study paper grade. Content The course instructor will provide each student with a list of possible choices, the student will then create a case study scenario based on the choices selected; the paper must also include all of the below criteria to receive full credit for the assignment. A brief description of the disease’s pathophysiology, medications, labs, and diagnostic tests. The case study scenario should include nursing care related to the patient’s age, religion/spiritual preferences, financial, developmental issues, Erikson’s stage of life, and what barriers may prevent the patient from reaching an optimal outcome. Explore what adaptations may be necessary to meet the needs of the patient’s profile based on the identified barriers. Include key resources that should be utilized, i.e. Home Health Agencies, support groups, other healthcare providers specific to the assigned client profile. The patient is a 13-19 year old heterosexual who is atheist. He/she is homeless with no support system and only completed grade school. He/she is Hispanic and Diabetes is their diagnosis.
