Narrative portion outline: • Introduction o Purpose of project, your initial suspicions of what the culture may be, etc. • Streak plate o State how a streak plate is performed and what its goal is. Then state how many times you produced one prior to being successful with the clinical vignette assigned culture • Gram stain o Provide a detailed account of the Gram stain which includes the following information . 1. How the test works (procedure of performing test). 2. What the test means. a. What does a negative result look like and what does it mean? b. What does a positive result look like and what does it mean? 3. The results for your unknown. 4. How the results helped you identify your unknown. o Make sure to include what pathogens you were considering after performing the Gram stain • Biochemical tests o State which biochemical tests you performed to identify the culture and provide a rationale for why each test was performed (how was it useful?) o State what bacterial species you have determined the culture to contain based on the data you’ve collected (Gram stain and biochemical test results) • Antibiotic susceptibilities o State which antibiotics you tested and what the results were for the disc diffusion test o State what your recommendation would be regarding the treatment of this specific patient based on your collected data Disease details portion : • Transmission • Disease characteristics o Including areas of the body that are affected and signs/symptoms of the disease • Treatment • Prevention • Incidence in the United States o Sporadic or endemic o Have there ever been outbreaks (epidemics/pandemics Cite any sources In the attached photos my pathogen is gram +, cocci, staphylococci arrangement, I performed the catalase test (positive), urease ( negative), and acid from glucose ( positive). My pathogen is staphylococcus aureus. My culture was from a patient with a skin infection and necrosis. I used the attached chart to narrow down my results to the staphylococcus aureus. The attached photo is the antibiotic disc diffusion. From the top going clockwise the antibiotics done are: Vancomycin, daptomycin, linezolid, telavancin.
