in the context of Dr. Leary’s post-traumatic slave syndrome. Students will read the article, Case
for Reparations” and write a reflection/reaction paper. This article should be read several times.
The following questions should only be used as a guide to organizing the narrative.
 Describe Mr. Coates’ intention and purpose in this article and explain what is meant by
the word and concept of “reparations” as it is discussed in the article
 Identify who Dr. Leary is and explain her theory of Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome.
Define syndrome from the research.
 Explain the intersectionality between the “Case for Reparations” article and the evidence,
documentation that Dr. Leary gives.
 Explain how historic trauma/race based trauma relates to Post-Traumatic Slave
Syndrome; the author of the reparations articles, Coates, gives a historical context, how
do you believe the historical context has impacted the overall mental health of African
Americans?
 Define reparations according to the article, and state whether you believe reparations
should be considered part of the healing process.
