The paper must be 8-10 type-written pages of text not including bibliography and endnotes. Chicago manual of style format in text, notes, and bibliography is preferred but inferior formats (MLA, APA, etc.) are acceptable. You should include an introductory paragraph stating the thesis you will address and indicate your point of view. You should also include a conclusion summarizing your arguments. And you should be careful to PROOFREAD!!! Spelling, sentence structure, etc. will be considered in the grade and should be carefully checked before you submit the paper. At the very least, be sure to run spellcheck. Remember that the cover page does NOT count as page one of the paper, and the end notes and bibliography/work cited pages also do not count as part of the 12-15 pages. You must include three types of source in the preparation of your paper. You must include primary sources. These are very important and the fundamental building block for anyone doing historical research. You may find useful primary sources in several places including the internet. Primary sources are very, very important. You must also include book-length studies, including biographies, general histories, period studies, thematic studies, and general overviews (Peter Brown is good).
